Following a degree in Physiology from Manchester University, I went on to research into nutritional endocrinology at Southampton University. At this point I started to question the approach of conventional scientific research, and began looking at various philosophies that offered alternative ways of looking at health and disease.
In addition I damaged my back quite badly, and therefore tried alternative therapies in addition to conventional medicine myself. I was given a book about homeopathy and as I read it, it made more and more sense bringing together empiric research and the whole is greater than the sum of the parts approach of alternative medicine.
Researching the best courses for homoeopathy resulted in my undertaking a three-year course at The College of Homeopathy, graduating in 1985. I set up The Marlow Homeopathic Practice with a fellow colleague, Elizabeth Courtis. In 1989 the clinic moved from a small office in Spittal Street to new premises in Glade Road, Marlow. In 1996 a second clinic was opened in Maidenhead to cope with increasing demand for homeopathic treatment. The Practice has become well established in the area extending its reputation throughout Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and beyond, relying mainly on word of mouth recommendations.
In 2003 I decided to establish a practice working from home in Maidenhead, which I am in the process of building up.
